James and I got a new car this week - a Subaru Outback. Its funny because both of us always thought we would get a much "cooler" car, but instead we are driving a station wagon. It has a lot of safety features, is good in the snow (which is a particular requirement of mine after flipping over in the Bronco a while ago and because our driveway is so steep), and the back seats fold down so we have a lot more cargo space (so I suppose now we can buy a lawnmower, I think all our neighbors will be very thankful).

My first car and its icy demise.
When I went to pick up the car I noticed a black grease smudge on the black part of the back windshield. When the smudge was wiped away it revealed a scratch! I was so upset. I don't know what upset me more, the dishonesty or the fact that my new car wasn't perfect. I pointed it out and the car dealership (after a bit of persuasion) is in the process of ordering another windshield.
So, the car isn't my dream car and the scratch is a reminder of the fragility of material things, but ultimately I love the car and am thankful for it because it is what we needed right now was a family.
